UR S.T.A.R.S. stands for Students and Teachers Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppressive Society. We are a group of pre-service teachers, practicing teachers, and university professors who are passionate about anit-oppressive education and teaching for social justice. We aim to address social issues by participating in personal development activities as a group, by collecting and providing resources related to social justice, and by offering professional development events for our colleagues and for the larger community.
I have been involved with UR S.T.A.R.S. since September 2015, and I am currently the Treasurer for the group. Our group consists of four committees: the Professional Development Committee, the Treaty Education Committee, the Social Committee, and the Promotions/Marketing Committee. Together, we work together to bring teachers from across the province together for powerful learning experiences.
